IT Project

The Bureau's IT Project has developed resources and guides to help voluntary and community groups access and get the best out of some of the key websites and IT based tools for funding information. Free training is available to groups to develop internet research skills and support in using the available resources to find good quality funding information.

Training

Get Connected...to Funding is the name we use for all the training and resources available from the SYFAB IT Project. Get Connected to Funding offers information, guides and tutorials to help voluntary and community groups use IT to help with your fundraising.

NEW Guide to Funding Information Services
Our new SYFAB Guide to Funding Information Services is now available. This document has guides to the most useful websites and services offering funding information to voluntary and community groups. Contact Danny to join the Get Connected to Funding email list to receive your copy.

Tutorials - Finding and Researching Funders Online
Our new set of online tutorials are now available. The tutorials will give you the information and help you learn the skills to find useful information on funders and save time in your research. These tutorials are currently being run as a guided online course. People on the course can work through the materials in short sections each week with additional support and tips from SYFAB along the way. For upcoming dates of this and other online courses, please contact Danny.

The tutorials cover:

  • Internet research techniques - how to improve your search engine skills, how to keep track of and and share useful information, and how to assess the quality of the information you find.
  • Finding Funders - a run through of the SYFAB services available and how to access them, and a guide to Funding Information Services that you can access for free.
  • Researching Individual Funders - how to organise and prioritise your research to save you time.

The basic tutorials and the guide are also available and free to access now on the new SYFAB Get Connected to Funding blog at syfab.wordpress.com. You can work through them at your own pace. These are just the basic tutorials - the email and online course will offer additional materials and more resources than you get on the blog. If you do access the materials on the blog, please contact me to let me know

Software

SIFT, the SYFAB Internet Funding Toolkit, is SYFAB's simple application that helps groups find funding information and get the best from the funding resources available on the internet.
From March 2008, SIFT is no longer available to new subscribers. SYFAB are working on major new developments to our Information Service that will combine the depth of research of a SYFAB funding search with the ease of use and on-demand nature of SIFT. We plan to launch the final version of this new service by the end of 2008.

For existing SIFT subscribers

A guide to installing and updating SIFT including how to fix common problems is available for subscribers to download by clicking here.

You can also access a SIFT tutorial on how to use and get the best out of SIFT. The tutorial is available on the new SYFAB Get Connected to Funding Blog at syfab.wordpress.com or by contacting Danny

All specific questions about SIFT or any difficulties with using it can be emailed to sift@syfab.org.uk. An adviser will get back to you as soon as possible.
