Funding Advice Bureau SYFAB guide to... Useful books and websites There are lots of different books, websites and other resources that are relevant to fundraising. Here, we run through a selection of some of the main sources of information. It’s important to remember that information changes rapidly so it’s a good idea to try to keep up to date. You may be able to find enough information for your needs for free; on the other hand, sometimes it may save you time to pay for a resource that fits your needs well. Remember to read information critically – don’t accept it at face value if it doesn’t seem right to you. Books The Directory of Social Change (DSC) publish a wide range of books on fundraising. They also produce book and cd-rom versions of funding directories. Online resources and magazines Funding news and funding search services SYFAB provide free online funding information services to help you find sources of funding for your organisation easily and quickly. You can keep up to date with the latest funding opportunities using our Funding News website and email service, and you can find possible funders for your activities with our funding search website. If you don’t use the internet, then our Funding News is available monthly by post and our Information Service can help you identify appropriate sources of funding by doing a free funding search for your group. Contact SYFAB for more details. • Fit4Funding Newsletter: Subscription-based monthly email newsletter of funding opportunities. Website: www.fi t4funding.org.uk/other/newsletter • Funding Central: A free funding search tool with information on grants and tenders available to the voluntary and community sector. Website: www.fundingcentral.org.uk • Fundinginformation.org: Subscription-based website with news of funding opportunities. Website: www.fundinginformation.org • Funderfinder: Produce two main software applications (Groups in Need and People in Need) that allow users to search for relevant charitable trust funders. There is a range of subscription fees. FunderFinder provides a thorough search tool, and basic information on each funder. Website: www.funderfi nder.org.uk • Trustfunding: A searchable subscription-based website of grant making trusts developed by the DSC (effectively the online version of the ‘Directory of Grant Making Trusts’). The search tool works less well than Funderfinder, but there is more information provided on each trust. The DSC also produce similar subscription services on governement funding, grants for individuals, and company giving. They each provide at least some of their content for free online.
