Funding search request

What SYFAB's Information Service provides

We provide free, specialist help to community groups and voluntary organisations needing to raise money. Our information workers can provide you with details of national and local charitable trusts and other non-statutory funders like the National Lottery. We do not give detailed information about Local or Central Government funding.

The service is based in our Sheffield office and is available by phone and post. Please note that you can no longer request a search online, as we need to speak to you about your project.

We can provide you with an up-to-date information pack of the most appropriate funders for your project. This will include:

  • printed records of appropriate charitable trusts or funders. These details will include what their funding policies are - what they will fund; the name of the person to write to; the type and likely size of grant they will give; their deadlines for deciding on grants.
  • details of any other non-statutory funding schemes which are relevant, like, for instance, Co-op Community Dividend Fund
  • a basic set of information sheets to help you write a good application.
  • any other information that we think might help, for example, a sheet about Company Giving.

Who can use the service?

This service is open to all voluntary and community groups operating in South Yorkshire (Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster).

What we need from you

To help us search our information effectively we need you to give us the following information when you contact us:

  • details of what you want funding for
  • your worked out costings
  • whether you have a deadline by which to raise the money
  • which funders you have tried in the past and whether you were successful or not
  • who you are currently funded by
  • whether you have had information from us before
  • whether or not you are a registered charity

The information service can send you a full information pack when you are ready to approach funders.

So, you may need to do some work first, like costing out your project, producing a business plan, or perhaps becoming a registered charity. One of our development workers or someone at your local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) may be able to help with this work:
