About SYFAB


South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau is a voluntary organisation and registered charity set up to help voluntary and community organisations get the resources they need.

Our services

The services we offer are free and include:

  • Information Service - can supply details of appropriate funders and Information Sheets to help with your funding application.

  • Funding News - monthly newsletter keeps you in touch with funding schemes and approaching deadlines.

  • Development Workers - we have Development Workers in Barnsley and Rotherham and a Funding Advisory Service in Sheffield. Advice is given to assist with planning, costing and making applications.

  • Training - we offer a training course in Funding and Fundraising for Community & Voluntary Groups, which is accredited by the Open College Network (OCN).

  • IT Project - we have produced a free piece of software called SIFT (SYFAB Internet Funding Toolkit) and offer groups training and guidance in using it to find funding resources on the internet.

Unfortunately we have no funding to provide a Development Worker in Doncaster at present, but will continue our efforts to get this service restored as soon as possible.

There are some things we can't or don't do:

  • We don't give grants.

  • We can't write your funding application for you, although we can offer advice and help.

  • We can't approach a funder for you or recommend you to a funder.

  • We can't work with statutory organisations like hospitals or schools.

  • We can't help individuals.

How we are managed and funded

South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau is managed by a committee elected annually from its member organisations. Any voluntary or community group in South Yorkshire can apply for membership. Please contact us for more details if you are interested.

The Bureau's work is funded by Sheffield City Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, SRB5/6 Barnsley, Big Lottery Fund, South Yorkshire ChangeUp CapacityBuilders, Lloyds TSB Foundation, South Yorkshire Investment Plan, Sheffield Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
