About SYFAB


Finding the resources you need so you can run the projects and activities that are important in your community is a constant challenge.

South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau can help you find useful information about funding, learn the skills to become a successful fundraiser, and get specific help with your funding. We provide information, advice and training on funding and fundraising to community and voluntary organisations in South Yorkshire.

Our services

The services we offer are free and include:

  • Funding Searches - find possible funders for your activities.

  • Funding News - our Funding News website has regular updates on funding opportunities. We also produce a monthly Funding News publication which contains a digest of relevant news from the website.

  • Funding Advice - we have Development Workers in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, who can support you with advice with planning, costing and making applications. We also produce a series of Information Sheets to help you learn more about funding issues.

  • Training - training courses and events for developing the fundraising skills of members of voluntary and community organisations.

There are some things we can't or don't do:

  • We don't give grants.
  • We can't write your funding application for you, although we can offer advice and help.
  • We can't approach a funder for you or recommend you to a funder.
  • We can't work with statutory organisations like hospitals or schools.
  • We can't help individuals.

How we are managed and funded

South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau is managed by a committee elected annually from its member organisations. Any voluntary or community group in South Yorkshire can apply for membership. Please contact us for more details if you are interested.

SYFAB's work is funded by Sheffield City Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, the Big Lottery Fund BASIS programme, Abbey Charitable Trust, the Brelms Trust, and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Bridging the Gap Programme.
